SAM RAINSY: I WILL RETURN BEFORE ELECTION DAY IN 2013
In an interview with Voice of Democracy (VOD) broadcasting from Phnom
Penh on December 22, opposition leader Sam Rainsy said he was
confident he would return to Cambodia to take part in the national
election scheduled for July 2013. He recalled that the ruling CPP had
been using a politically-subservient court to try to eliminate the
opposition SRP and warned that nobody would recognize the result of
any national election organized by the CPP without the participation
of its main rival and only real challenger. He compared Hun Sen to an
adult and tall boxer showing cowardice in the boxing ring because
trying to escape a fight with another adult boxer with comparable
weight, preferring instead an easy fight with a small child. The small
child here is a small so-called opposition party with only two or
three Members of Parliament compared to the SRP which is ten to twenty
times as large with 37 elected Members of Parliament on the eve of the
2013 national election.
In the interview Sam Rainsy also elaborated on the most recent
political and social events in Cambodia.
