Washington, June 11 (CNA) Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Chairman Su Tseng-chang urged China Tuesday to reduce its military threat against Taiwan and embrace the universal values of democracy and peace.
Speaking during a visit to Washington, D.C., Su expressed hope that the rising China will reduce its military superiority against Taiwan and help maintain regional stability and peace, which he said is in line with global expectations.
Su was scheduled to visit the U.S. Congress the following day and deliver a speech on strengthening U.S.-Taiwan relations at the Brookings Institution, a non-profit think tank.

He said the U.S. is one of Taiwan's most important partners and that he wants to explain Taiwan's current situation, the DPP's ideals, and the expectations of the people of Taiwan to U.S. political circles during his visit.
Su said he will address issues about which Washington is concerned and explain what the DPP plans to do when it regains power.
"We will make the U.S. confident in the DPP," he added.
