  • NEW YORK : Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has told New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg that Thailand is on track to achieving national reconciliation.
"Thailand is moving towards reconciliation, an issue to which the government has given a high priority," Ms Yingluck said.
"Participation of people from all walks of life will make the process accountable while compliant with the human rights framework."
She told Mr Bloomberg that the process is challenging but her government has received good responses.
Ms Yingluck met the mayor to discuss transport systems and disaster management. She hopes to apply New York's success stories to Bangkok.
She also discussed the government's planned development projects, such as the US$74-billion high-speed train system, the expansion of Suvarnabhumi airport to accommodate up to 65 million travellers a year, and a $20-billion water management system.

Ms Yingluck said the government was confident of pushing forward the infrastructure investments. It expects to start the water management system in the middle of next year.
The premier delivered a speech to the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, saying that economic development must go hand in hand with political advancement and that any strategy to promote growth must put the people first.
On the reforms in Myanmar, Ms Yingluck called on countries to work together as partners to help Myanmar continue its changes. All countries would benefit from this economic cooperation and integration, she said.
