Dear all,
Women participation in election 2013 is facing the lack of political finance and written policy for promoting women, in additional to any obstruct in voter registration, run for candidate, and voting participation.
Based on official candidate lists of National Election Committee (NEC), there are only 168 women candidates (18.96%) of totally 886 candidates from 8 political parties. Zooming women candidates stand for election in 1st to 3rd place listed only 12.16%. The figure is seem increase 4.16% from the election 2008 [14.80% of total candidates in election 2008].
The Committee for Free and Fair Elections in Cambodia (COMFREL) evaluates that women participation in election 2013 may decreased and cannot meet the Cambodian Millennium Development Goal that determined to get women totally 30% in decision making positions by 2015. COMFREL learned that if the loss of voter name still happens, women will lose their rights to voter more than men because of women voters in the official voter lists are totally 52.50%.
