An explosion hit the University of Aleppo in Syria's largest city on Tuesday, causing an unspecified number of causalities, state television reported.
The report characterized the blast as a “terrorist attack,” but gave no further details about the attack or the total number of victims. State television footage showed at least one body lying on the street and several burning cars.
RT correspondent Kamel Saqr, who is on the ground in Aleppo, reported that two were killed and more than 20 were injured in the explosion.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claimed 15 civilians were killed and dozens injured after two explosions rocked an area between a university dormitory and the Architecture Building in the southern part of Aleppo University.
The second explosion may have been caused by a burning car, though there has been no independent confirmation, Reuters reports.
The university is located in government-controlled territory.
Aleppo is Syria's largest city and has been fiercely contested between government forces and rebel fighters, who have battled to a stalemate in the strategically important region.
