NARATHIWAT, Dec 23 – An aide to a local government official was shot to death in his car in this insurgency-plagued province early Friday.
Suemanga Yuso, 47, assistant to a village head was gunned down in his vehicle this morning. His bullet-ridden body was found in his car on a road in Rangae district.
The initial investigation indicated the victim was ambushed by two gunmen as he was driving home, and passing a rubber plantation.
Police said they believed the murder was the work of insurgents intending to reduce the credibility and effectiveness of the local administration by targeting persons working for the government.
The killing follows a group of attacks on military and police outposts in the nearby provinces of Pattani and Yala Wednesday.
Two defence volunteers were shot dead and 27 government employees and civilians were wounded in Wednesday's violence.
The government intelligence warned local security officials to be on alert and to set up checkpoints on roads to prevent violence during the New Year holiday celebrations. (MCOT online news)
