Gaddafi Urges End to NATO Bombing

Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi said in a live speech on state TV that he was ready for a ceasefire and negotiations.

But he said that depended on NATO halting its air strikes, and insisted he wouldn't step down.

As he was speaking, NATO warplanes pounded parts of Tripoli.

The offices of the High Commission for Children took a hit.

The building showed signs of severe damage.

It's close to the TV station and one of the telecommunications towers that appeared to be the intended targets.

Weeks of Western air strikes have failed to dislodge the Libyan leader.

Previous offers of a ceasefire have been rejected by NATO as Libyan government forces continued to fight on.

Gaddafi's insistence that he won't give up power defies a central demand of the rebels.

It's also demanded by the United States, France and the United Kingdom who are leading the air campaign.

State media said the latest bombing raid was an attempt to kill Gaddafi, who's ruled Libya for more than four decades.
