Phnom Penh (The Cambodia Herald/ANN) - At least 400 prisoners will be released or have their sentences reduced for next month's funeral of the late King Father, Justice Minister Ang Vong Vathanak said yesterday.
Regarding two Thais convicted of espionage, he said a royal decree for reducing the sentence of Veera Somkwamkid and pardoning Ratri Pipattanaopaiboon would take effect on February 1 when the funeral begins.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Hun Sen asked the Ministry of Justice to consider pardoning the two Thais following a renewed appeal by Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.
Among those who are not being granted clemency are opposition leader Sam Rainsy, who is believed to be living in France, and radio station owner Mam Sonando.
