The Criminal Court on Monday adjourned a decision on a petition that it withdraw bail for red-shirt co-leader Jatuporn Prompan and other leaders until Aug 9.
The request for revocation of bail for the former Pheu Thai list MP was filed by the Constitution Court after he publicly and vociferously criticised its decision to accept for hearing five petitions against the legality of the charter amendment bill.
Mr Jatuporn appeared before the Criminal Court on Monday morning to testify in his defence.
He said that his speech on June 7 criticising the Constitution Court and its judges was an exercise of his rights as set down in the constitution.
His comments were not intended to intimidate the Constitution Court judges or to incite people to unrest, Mr Jatuporn said.
This could be clearly seen from the fact that on the day the charter court decided to accept the petitions for consideration, and the day the court made its ruling, the red-shirts did not rally in front of the court, because they had been told not to do so by their leaders, he said.
After hearing his defence, the court was of the opinion that it was still not clear whether Mr Jatuporn had broken a condition of his bail.
Mr Jatuporn was told to strictly abide by the law, not to do anything in violation of the rights and freedoms of other people, and to be more careful when making any speeches, to prevent any disruption of peace and order.
The court set Aug 9 for the questioning of other defendants in the case. It will make a decision on bail for Mr Jatuporn and other red-shirt leaders on that day. The decision will cover all of them.
