At least 11 people have been killed and some 14,100 families affected by flash floods that hit some provinces in Cambodia since earlier this month, according to reports of the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) on Saturday.
Those affected provinces are Banteay Meanchey, Siem Reap, Preah Vihear, Kampong Thom, Takeo and Pailin, the report said.
Banteay Meanchey province bordering Thailand is the worst-hit province by the floods.
So far, about 14,100 families have been affected including 4, 060 families evacuated to higher grounds, it said, adding that some 47,220 hectares of rice seedlings and 2,300 hectares of cassava have been inundated.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology issued a media statement Friday, saying that the country is suffering from a low pressure system and the impact will continue until Oct. 4.
About 18 out of the country's 24 cities and provinces are faced with flooding, according to the statement signed by Minister Lim Kean Hor.
Floods usually hit Cambodia between August and October. Last year, the floods killed at least 250 Cambodian people and affected some 1.4 million in the country, according to the NCDM.
Nearly 3,000 kilometers of gravel roads and some 180 kilometers of national roads had been damaged.
Last year's floods cost the country about 521 million U.S. dollars.
