Appeals Court to Rehear Murder Case of Slain Activist Chea Vichea

PHNOM PENH - Two men widely believed innocent of killing a union leader in 2004 will once more face the courts.

Sok Samoeun and Born Samnang have been free since 2008, after the Supreme Court released them on bail and ordered a rehearing of their case.

That rehearing, at the Appeals Court, is slated for next month.

Both men are accused of killing Chea Vichea, a widely popular union activist, but rights groups and other observers say there was little evidence against them and that they may have been offered up by police as suspects under dubious circumstances.
