South Korea Stops Anti-North Leaflet Launch

South Korean police have stopped a North Korean defector organization from launching pamphlet-loaded balloons over the heavily guarded border into the North.

Authorities blocked the Fighters for a Free North Korea and other protesters on Saturday from reaching the town of Imjangak, where they planned to launch their balloons. However, they allowed some demonstrators through to protest Pyongyang's dismal human rights record.

Local residents oppose the launches, because North Korea has in the past threatened to shell sites used to launch the anti-Pyongyang pamphlets.
