Gaddafi's Rule Appears in Jeopardy
Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's four-decade-old rule appeared in increasing jeopardy on Monday as anti-government protests reached the capital of Tripoli for the first time.
Several cities in the east appeared to be in the hands of the opposition as protests spread from Benghazi.
State TV broadcast a caption over file footage calling for the population to cooperate with the armed forces.
Meanwhile, two Libyan fighter jets and two civilian helicopters landed unexpectedly in Malta on Monday.
Human Rights Watch said at least 233 people had been killed in Libya in 5 days of violence, but opposition groups have put the figure much higher.
